How Wat Pho tours differ
Wat Pho is small enough to see on your own, so a tour is mostly about the story and the route. You can hire a local guide at the temple. Guide prices and languages vary, so agree both before you start.
Most bookable tours are not about Wat Pho alone. They link the temple with the Grand Palace and Wat Arun in a half day, or they run in the evening through the old town. Some go by tuk-tuk, some on foot, some by bicycle. Look at the route first, then the price.
The prices on this page are examples from single products. They show what one tour costs, not a market range.

Our picks: guided Wat Pho tours
Our take: the guided morning with the boat is the most booked choice. The tour with the amulet market is similar for less, and the walk with Wat Arun suits you if you skip the Grand Palace.

Tour types compared
Each row describes a type of tour. Details differ by product.
| Type | Wat Pho visit inside | Typical length | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local guide at the temple | Yes | Your choice | Price and language vary; agree both first |
| Daytime temple combination on foot | Yes, with palace and Wat Arun | About 4 hours | Example: THB 1,750 join-in, minimum age 10 |
| Private variant by tuk-tuk | Yes | โ | The tuk-tuk applies to the private version, not every ticket |
| Evening tuk-tuk food tour | Not promised | About 4 hours | Food example: 18:00 start, not on Mondays, minimum age 10 |
| Evening bicycle tour | Not promised | 3 hours | A route away from standard sights such as Wat Pho |
For most first-time visitors, the half-day combination on foot is the easiest way to see the palace and Wat Pho in one morning. If you only want Wat Pho, go on your own, pay the THB 300 entrance fee and hire a guide at the temple only if you want explanations. Do not book an evening tour to see the Reclining Buddha. Those routes are about streets, markets and food.
What to check before you book
- Inside or outside. Does the tour go into Wat Pho, or only past it? A tour with a Wat Pho name does not always include a visit.
- Entrance fees. Is the THB 300 for Wat Pho included? And the THB 500 for the Grand Palace, if the route has one?
- How you travel. Walking, tuk-tuk or bicycle. The title alone does not prove a tuk-tuk ride for every ticket.
- Meeting point or pick-up. Many join-in tours start at a meeting point. Hotel pick-up may cost extra or be unavailable.
- Language and group size. Check the guide language and the size of a join-in group.
- Walking and food. Ask how far you walk and whether a meal is part of the tour. Food tours may not suit vegetarians or people with dietary limits.
- Clothing. Temple rules apply on any route that enters a temple. See the dress code.
Prices on offer pages can differ from the final checkout price for your date, and an offer page does not show free places on your day.
Hiring a guide at the temple
If you walk in on your own, you can still ask a local guide to take you around. Agree on the price and the length of the walk before you start. A guide is most useful at the Reclining Buddha hall, the great chedis and the ordination hall, where the details are easy to miss. If you would rather read first, the highlights page gives the background.
Evening routes
Evening tours by tuk-tuk or bicycle show another side of old Bangkok, with markets, street food and lit streets. They are a different experience from the temple visit. See night tours and food tours for what they cover.

Wat Pho tours: frequently asked questions
Do I need a guide for Wat Pho?
No. You can walk the grounds on your own. A guide helps if you want the history and the meaning of the figures. You can hire a local guide at the temple or book a tour. See the highlights for what to look for.
How long is a half-day tour with the Grand Palace?
One example runs about 4 hours and covers the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. Other products differ. Check the length and the stops of the tour you choose.
What does an example tour include?
For one half-day product: a guide, entrance fees, water, tour transport and insurance. The MRT ticket and join-in pick-up are not included. This applies to that product only.
Can I see the Reclining Buddha on a night tour?
Do not count on it. Evening tours focus on streets, markets and food, and a bicycle tour avoids the standard sights. If the Buddha is your goal, visit during opening hours. See opening hours.
What age do tours allow?
The examples above have a minimum age of 10. Other tours differ, so check the age rule before booking with children.
Is wat-pho.org a tour operator?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It has no link to the temple, the massage school or any tour operator. You book tours with the operators.
