Bangkok night tours at a glance

Night tours in the old town come in two main formats. Evening tuk-tuk tours combine culture, markets and food. Evening bicycle tours take about 3 hours and focus on the city away from the standard sights.

That matters if you are here for Wat Pho. The Reclining Buddha is a daytime sight, and the temple's opening hours end between 18:30 and 19:30. Do not book a night tour in the hope of seeing the Buddha after dark. Visit the temple by day and use the evening for the streets around it. See the Wat Pho opening hours to fit both into one day.

For most visitors who want both the temples and the nightlife, the best plan is a daytime visit to Wat Pho followed by an evening tuk-tuk tour. If food is the main reason, read the Bangkok food tour page. The one food product above has a minimum age of 10, a join-in group of up to 8 people and is not suited to vegetarians or other dietary restrictions.

What to check before you book

  • The stop list: some evening routes list Wat Prayoon in place of Wat Pho and Wat Arun at night, because of construction work. Ask which stops are included and whether they are visits or photo stops.
  • The meeting point: check whether the tour meets at a fixed point or picks you up at your hotel.
  • What the price includes: food, drinks and entry fees differ by product and cannot be carried over from one tour to another.
  • Age and diet: check the minimum age and whether vegetarian or other diets are possible.
  • The day of the week: one food tour does not run on Mondays.

For river views at night, the Chao Phraya has its own guides. See Chao Phraya river cruises and Wat Arun at night.

Places that suit an evening

Open after dark in the old town.

Yaowarat in Chinatown

A shopping and street food district with stalls in the evening. It is not next to the temple gate. On the MRT Blue Line, Wat Mangkon and Sanam Chai are different stations.

Getting there โ†’

Pak Khlong Talat

The flower market on Chak Phet Road is open 24 hours and is free. It is a working market with roses, orchids, marigolds and garlands. Floors can be wet and slippery during deliveries.

Sanam Luang

The open ceremonial field in front of the Grand Palace is open from 5:00 to 22:00 and free. The city bans drones, smoke and alcohol there.

Tha Tien

The historic trading quarter beside Wat Pho, known for dried seafood, shrimp and squid.

Tuk-tuks, prices and the closed-today story

If you take a tuk-tuk on your own, agree the price before you get in. The Grand Palace administration advises this and warns that tuk-tuks can cost more than taxis.

Near Wat Pho and the palace, strangers sometimes claim that a site is closed today and suggest a tuk-tuk ride to other stops, often a jeweller or a tailor. This does not describe all drivers. Check the hours at the gate or on the opening hours page, and decline politely if the claim does not fit.

Bangkok night tours: frequently asked questions

Can I see the Reclining Buddha on a night tour?

Plan to see it by day. The temple's hours end between 18:30 and 19:30, and evening tours are built around markets, food and streets. Check the stop list of any tour that mentions Wat Pho.

How long is a Bangkok night tour?

An evening bicycle tour takes about 3 hours. One evening food tuk-tuk product takes about 4 hours and starts at 18:00.

Is a night tour safe for children?

It depends on the product. The food tuk-tuk example sets a minimum age of 10. Check the age rule of each tour before you book.

Are night tours suitable for vegetarians?

The food tuk-tuk example is not suited to vegetarians or other dietary restrictions. Do not assume the same for other tours, and ask before you book.

Should I book a tuk-tuk tour or hail one?

A booked tour has a set price and route. If you hail a tuk-tuk on your own, agree the price first.

Is this the official Wat Pho website?

No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the temple, its massage school or any tour operator. Times and prices can change, so confirm them when you book.
